Tuesday
My wife and I are off on a much needed vacation next week. We will finish things up in Toronto at the Jazz Fest. We have some good tickets to see Sonny Rollins on Friday. My daughter suggested that I do some live updates - we will see how it goes. In the meantime here is a podcast I found, enjoy!

I was there last night too, what did you think? there were a few moments when I thought he might attack the guitar player :-)
best when he let out the calypso/samba
I have been trying to find a review on-line but nothing yet, and I suppose maybe nothing ever
do you know the names of his sidemen? and the names of the tunes he played?
any assistance will be appreciated
David, The Calypso tune was St. Thomas, a composition Sonny wrote many years back. Another tune I recognized was In a Sentimental Mood by Duke Ellington. If you find out the other information let us know. Thanks
thanks for getting back to me, appreciated
hummm, it didn't sound like St. Thomas to me, (but that's not to say you are wrong, just trying to get it straight y'unnerstan) I know the tune quite well and the fellow in the chair next to me told me he is a big fan and as we were leaving he commented that it was too bad Sonny hadn't done St. Thomas ... there is an upbeat tune called Global Warming which I found a copy of on YouTube - but already my memory is fading and I can't quite say if it was or not
it is too bad that musical memory is something like visual memory - you can't use it to do a Google :-)
maybe I will email that FM pundit who opened the show and see if he has a playlist
I will keep you posted
Your right about the memory thing. It may have been a little of both songs although I did listen to the global warming tune and it didn't seem the same.
I spoke with the producer of the Jazz Fest there in Toronto and he shared my sentiments - we have to catch Sonny while we can - he is a living legend.
What do you think about the Roadshows album?
Come to think of it - the name of the Calypso song is "Nice Lady" and it is on the Roadshows Vol. 1 album.
Nice talking to you David and thanks for checking out my site.
